The first steels have been installed

The steels for the basement/middle floor interface have been delayed for several weeks; everyone is trying to get their orders fulfilled and the fabricators are swamped with work.  Some of our steel beams are standard but several require fabricating to attach plates or other connectors to make the structure work.

They finally arrived a week ago and the Insul Hub team has lost no time in getting them installed on Tuesday this week.

The heavy lifting was carried out by the team from Earp Lifting, a local company specialising in crane operations. This week, the crane was operated by Sian (pictured below) who expertly placed all the steels into position.  Several hours of precision work saw the shape of the cantilever overhang come to life for the first time.

Now that the steels are in place, the beam and block over the garage can be completed and the posi-joists across the rest of the ground floor can also be installed.

12mm ply has been fixed to the posi-joists today so that this provides a temporary safe platform.  We do not want to install the 22mm T&G flooring until we have the area above watertight.  Whilst T&G flooring claims to be weatherproof, it can easily become soggy, which would lead to soft spots in the floor.

Onwards and upwards!
