Waterproofing week!

No, this was nothing to do with the weather!  The past week was spent installing the waterproofing for the internal walls on the basement.  Once again, Martin and his team from Select Basements were back on site to install the various membranes.  As the basement is mostly below ground level, there is a Building Regulations requirement to have at least 2 different types of waterproofing on the walls.  The external membranes were fitted last year.  Last week it was the internal membranes.  This entailed several layers of different defences including channels all around the basement floor; membranes on the walls which direct any water into the channels; a drain through the basement walls, a layer of membrane on the floor topped with closed cell insulation and yet another layer of membrane. A screed will complete the build up shortly.

The design was carried out by David Jeffries of Structural Waterproofing Design Consultants Ltd.

The basement is now fully protected; work can now start on the upper floors.
