This week, the focus has changed to waterproofing the basement walls and structure. The waterproofing for the basement was designed by David from Structural Waterproofing Design Consultants. Basement waterproofing involves having to install at least 2 systems to ensure that water cannot access the outside of the structure of the building or, if it does, it has a clear exit route so that it never remains within the structure.
Martin and Billy from Select Basements carried out the practical work. This experienced team started by applying a sealant to all of the external walls. This was followed up with a waterproof adhesive membrane, the application of which coincided with the hottest day of the week, making it easier to apply. Finally, a Sovereign Sovdrain product, which looks like inverted small egg box shapes, was applied to the outside of the walls. This allows water an exit route away from the walls into the surface water drainage system so that none of it can penetrate the structure.
On their next visit, Martin and his team will be installing the internal drainage channels and flushing points in the basement screed.
Next week, we will have the Insul Hub team back on site when the backfill will start. All that work in excavating the the huge hole on site will start to disappear …
